Heat Capture Gold At Clearview IceCats March Madness In the Valley Tournament After An Exciting 2-1 Shootout Victory Over The Kitchener Lady Rangers
What a way to finish an overall fun weekend away for everyone involved !! Taking down a strong Kitchener team in thrilling fashion made it even sweeter. The girls stepped up and gave an outstanding effort, playing to the best of their ability, with a high compete level. It was a great defensive game. After a scoreless 1st period Erin Mathers tipped in a beauty on a Sami Regier shot from the point passed by Meg Fritz late in the 2nd period. The Lady Rangers tied the game up 1-1 part way through the 3rd and the score remained tied after regulation. An exciting 5 minute 4 on 4 sudden death overtime period kept fans on the edge of their seats but solved nothing so the game had to be decided by a 3 player shoot out. Lindsay Merner & Hailee Masse scored nice shoot out goals for the Heat and goaltender Olivia Wightman shut the door stopping all 3 Kitchener shooters to seal the deal. The bench erupted and the celebration began.

Game 1 of the tournament was a 3-1 victory over the Cold Creek Comets. The Comets held a 1-0 lead late into the 2nd period before the Heat stormed back with one in the 2nd and two in the 3rd to get the win. Masse led the offensive attack with 2 goals and an assist. Regier scored the other on a 'bar down' shot from the point, other assists went to Merner with 2, Cayla Hoffman, Jilaine Dunn and Ava Overholt with 1 each. Game 2 was a 3-1 loss to the same Kitchener Lady Rangers that the girls edged in the finals ;) . It was tight until the Ranger scored 2 late in the 3rd for the win. Masse scored the lone on a heads up breakaway pass from defenceman Emma Ducharme. Game 3 was a 2-1 victory over the Ottawa Valley Thunder. Isabella Hurley buried one on a perfect pass from Brooke Kootstra and Masse scored the other.  Other noteable players having great weekends with strong defensive efforts were Erica Maloney, Kailey Hallahan, Kristen Scott, Hailee Brown and Olivia Goodburn. Tender Olivia Wightman made several key saves throughout the tournament.
A 'Shout Out' to the coaching staff of Pete Overholt, Nicole Dunn and Riley Masse on a job well done on and off the ice.  The weekend made for some unforgettable memories that I'm sure the girls and coaching staff will cherish forever. Way to Go Girls !!!
