Novice Goderich Wins It All in Wilmot
The Huron Heat Goderich team travelled to New Hamburg for our first ever half ice tournament this weekend.  They brought the skill that we’d all been waiting to see, and played their hearts out every game, finishing the tournament undefeated!

There were contributions by every single player along the way.

We came out the gate flying in the first game, led by Sophie and Emma, who were skating faster, and shooting harder than ever before.  Aliya stepped up her game early on as well, digging for pucks, and ensuring the other team didn’t have time to make plays. Melanie did a great job moving the puck, and putting it in the net, while Stella provided solid goaltending, earning herself her first shutout of the year.

Our second game that day, we continued to build momentum, with Ruby scoring 3 goals.  That game also saw Rachael, who put in a solid defensive effort all tournament, contribute offensively with a great goal.

The next day, the competition got stronger, but we came back with even more effort.  Kylie started the day by demonstrating hard work, staying on her feet, getting to pucks quickly, and helping the team finish in a tie game.

The afternoon skills competition provided some great entertainment and saw some fierce cheering.  We had four players competing, and all four had a great showing, going out there all on their own, competing hard, and coming out on top in 3 of the 4 events!

Moving on to our final two games, Adele got her stick on the puck a few times and earned herself her first assist.  The winning goal in the first half of the back to back was scored with just over a minute left on the clock, on a great sharp angled shot by Hadley.  In the final game, strong defensive play by Katie kept the other team off the board again, helping us to finish the weekend on a winning note.

By the end of the day Saturday, it was clear the kids had put forth a tremendous effort.  Their hard work provided some entertaining hockey to watch and kept the fans on the edge of their seats all weekend.  Great job girls!
