18-19 Midget BB - International Silver Stick Champions!
Submitted By Denise DeJong on Monday, January 14, 2019
The Huron Heat has made its way into the Hockey Hall of Fame! (be sure to look for the plaque with our team name on it the next time you visit) The Midget BB team competed in the Silver Stick Finals in Sarnia this past weekend and came home Champions! This team of dedicated players and bench staff has been on fire all season and is proud to add this prestigious title to our list of accomplishments.

Facing off against league rivals, Wallaceburg Lakers, we knew we’d be in for a physical game to begin the tournament. The Heat got off to an early lead and were able to maintain it throughout the remainder of the game, winning 3-0. Our second game of the day was against Woodstock Wildcats. The Wildcats came ready to play and despite some great chances, the Heat could not put one past the strong Woodstock goaltender. A 2-0 loss was fuel in the tank to come ready to play for our next two games. Saturday’s games included matches against Sarnia and Omaha. The Heat dominated both games and were able to come out with four more points.

A round robin loss to Woodstock was incentive to come out stronger and harder in the final than we had done on Friday night. The Wildcats kept us on our toes and gave us a fast, crisp, clean game of hockey. Our offence was firing on all cylinders, putting four goals past Woodstock over three periods of play. Our defense was equally as strong, blocking shots and setting up some great breakouts and plays. Our goal-tending was outstanding… a shut out!

Thanks to our fantastic bench staff for rolling with the punches, making adjustments as necessary and coaching these girls to a gold medal finish!
