The Atom BB team rocked a game-packed weekend, playing 2 league games and participating in the Pink On The Rink Tournament in Exeter!
At Pink on the Rink, Friday's nooner saw the Heat take on the Mitchell Meteors. The girls had a strong showing, scoring 5 unanswered goals for a 5-0 win! Congrats to Bronwyn, Mallory, Lerissa and Leah, who were our goal scorers!
After a short rest, the Heat had a South Huron showdown, and did what they needed to do with a 2-0 win. Goals scored by Teagan and Bronwyn.
With the two early wins on Friday, the girls punched their ticket to the Pink On The Rink finals, even with one game remaining on Saturday.
With the team battling sickness on Saturday, the girls came out flat for their first important league game of the weekend, losing against Woolwich 3-2. Goaltender Kyla kept them in the game making many crucial saves, as did Lerissa, scoring both Heat goals.
A quick trip down the road to Pink on the Rink and a battle against the Lucan Irish, the girls continued their lacklustre effort, in a 1-0 loss, knowing they would meet them again in the finals on Sunday.
With Saturday's sub-par games, coaches and fans weren't sure what to expect on Sunday, but with lots of rest, the girls pulled up their socks and decided to pick up their skating game, playing Saugeen Maitland Lightning in their second important league game of the weekend. In a fantastic display of Huron Heat dominance, they defeated Saugeen 2-0, while giving up only a handful of shots, allowing Kyla a rest for the final of the tournament. Goals scored by Emery and Bronwyn.
The dominance continued into the finals of Pink on the Rink when they avenged their prior loss to Lucan, in a 4-0 victory to claim the Atom BB Championship! Bronwyn with a hat trick and Lerissa with a single!
